ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Junior DBA, you’ll be talented and adaptable and looking to build your career within an innovative, forward-thinking software and services company, supporting mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server databases for enterprise-level organisations. You’ll share our company values, demonstrating trustworthiness, work ethic, ambition, and morals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a member of Koderly’s Remote Database Administration (RDBA) team, you’ll work alongside experienced DBAs to support, maintain, secure, and performance-tune our internal and customer’s critical SQL Server databases. Key responsibilities include:
- Daily monitoring of database maintenance tasks, including backups, index maintenance, and corruption checks
- Investigating live SQL Server database alerts
- Monitoring of key database routines against a baseline for performance
- Regular capacity planning and monitoring of server throughput
- Monitoring and maintenance of high availability solutions (e.g. replication)
- Troubleshooting database performance issues using industry-standard tools and scripts
- Writing queries and optimising T-SQL code
- Index tuning
- Reviewing SQL Server updates and making recommendations to customers
- Contributing to the development of Koderly’s in-house monitoring tools
- Maintaining database documentation as required
- Updating Koderly’s case management systems and ensuring cases progress through to completion
ABOUT YOU
The right candidate will have some experience in database administration/programming and/or is a software engineer with 1-2 years’ experience who is looking to transition into a SQL Server database administration role. Key skills include:
- 1 year experience in writing T-SQL queries
- A solid understanding of relational database principles
- Experience of installing and configuring a SQL Server instance in either a production or development environment
- An understanding of the role that CPU, memory, and disk I/O play in SQL Server performance
- A basic understanding of how to read and interpret query execution plans
- Familiarity with industry-standard tools and their use in troubleshooting SQL Server performance
- An awareness of cloud platforms and services (such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud)
- Strong organisational skills and effective communication
- Strong writing skills
- A hands-on approach and the ability to work off your own initiative, with a completion mentality
- A strong desire for continuous personal development
