What’s the deal?
Every year, we take on paid industrial placement students for 12 months between the penultimate and final years of their undergraduate degrees. We also offer work experience placements and internships.
What does the position involve?
At Koderly, we believe that while you may have one job, this involves many different roles. Your job title will be Software Engineer, but this will cover responsibilities across the entire software development cycle, including database design, support testing, and front-end/back-end development. An industrial placement at Koderly sets you up for a career in IT and the best possible grade in your final year. Your varied workload will also ensure that you develop expertise in all areas, and that every day is different!
What qualifications/experience will I need?
The candidate will be studying towards an IT or relevant degree and have some understanding of:
- An object-orientated language e.g. C#, Java
- ASP (Classic or .NET)
What character attributes would best suit the role?
We look for developers that are passionate about learning and spreading knowledge. Software engineers work on individual tasks within a team, so the candidate must be self-motivated as well as being capable of working well with others. Excellent communication skills and a critical eye for detail are also vital.
What training will be provided?
Formal training sessions, buddy programming and on-the-job mentoring are all part of the extensive training provided. On top of this, every software engineer has half a day per week of Personal Development Time to spend pursuing a personal project, gaining certifications or attending training sessions delivered by experienced software developers. We are committed to ensuring that our students receive the best possible training, and our industrial placement programme recently achieved the prestigious Princess Royal Training Award.
When is the application closing date?
We don’t set one. Although we are flexible and places are limited. The earlier you apply, the better your chances.
Is there an opportunity to secure a permanent job after I graduate?
Absolutely! Many of our existing software engineers are former industrial placement students. Those who are successful in securing a permanent position will be paid throughout their final year of university and will keep in touch with the team through our many and varied social events.
When is the start date?
Industrial placements start in July and last for twelve months.
