In January 2018, we were thrilled to receive Accreditation from Investors in People, which formally recognised the importance we place on having a positive impact on our employees.
This December, we received our annual visit from the Investors in People (IIP) team to review our progress since our original assessment and make sure we had maintained the achieved standard. As well as helping us identify any areas that require improvement – let’s face it, we’re an ambitious lot and are always looking to make positive change!
The assessment visit consisted of a range of interviews with a cross section of our wonderful employees, as well as an evidentiary review of internal documentation, including employee surveys and business KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
Needless to say, we maintained the current standard, and are making significant progress towards the next!
We, once again, got cited on how our fantastic company ethos drives every aspect of the business, and how we deliver a strong sense of community for our employees. Our leaders were commended on their mentorship and approachability, with our group structure being applauded for its effectivity in information dissemination.
There were high levels of positivity in relation to satisfaction, motivation and association factors. This was reflected in employee survey data showing that 98% of employees understand the company ethos, mission and objectives and that 91% of employees enjoy working at the company. The following comments by our employees were highlighted by our assessor:

One of our proudest commendations was that of our commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our employees. We work hard at creating a comfortable, open work space for all and are always striving to break down barriers of previous taboo mental health issues and raise awareness of topics that affect those in our industry, as well as helping equip our employees for the ever challenging world they face on a day to day basis. Our recent employee survey highlighted 92% of our employees have confidence in talking about their mental health.
It was also demonstrated how our continued investment in people is translating into business results and achievements. Through interviews and the documentary submission, a large number of significant outcomes were highlighted including, for example:
- a 45% reduction in open support cases – reflecting significant improvements in productivity
- winning the Community Commitment Gold Award for excellence in corporate social responsibility
- our Chief Executive, Craig, winning the Leadership Award at the Big Chip Awards (for exceptional, positive leadership)
- low employee turnover rates
- survey data indicating that 100% and 96% of employees have confidence in their group director and group leader respectively
As a company, we at Web Applications never stand still and are already working on strengthening our approaches, processes and offerings to ensure our employees are continuously improving and are equipped with the skills to succeed in their roles, in their wellbeing and in their communities. What a way to kick off 2019 – onwards and upwards!
